In the field of energy technology, research takes many different directions. The development of new technology always demands new experimental set-ups, that can constantly be adapted. A building that can accommodate such demands, will have to look different to the usual institutional buildings.

A technical lamina curtain facade summarizes the complex form of the building and depending on the viewpoint, transmits a completely different image of its cubic form. Sometimes the full form is visible and sometimes the view through the lamina, gives an insight into the interior of the building and an idea if its technical, content and construction.

Like a glaringly white welding seam, the stairwell connects the different floors of the original old building, to the different heights of the working spaces, of the new building. The facilities of the building also determine the visual appearance: A suction opening of the wind canal determined the design of the entrance front and solar cells are used as cladding. The produced electricity, is fed into the universities network.

This project was published widely and won Deutschen Fassadenpreis 2013 und dem Best Architects 12 Award.
