HTW DRESDEN TECHNICAL CENTER FOR VEHICLE ENEGNEERING

At the University for Technology and Economics in Dresden, the faculty for Automotive Technology and Research Institute for Automotive Technology, were merged to one location. With this new building a significant cornerstone was achieved on the HTW campus. Taking into account that these faculties are encouraged to collaborate directly with established industry corporations, it was necessary that the building goes beyond the obvious importance of its functionality, but that it is also representative of this aspect. Therefor the building exterior was given a striking and succinct form that is consciously associated with automobile and machinery. Despite its marginal size, the building has presence, through its sculptural form in the heterogeneous surroundings. A light polished aluminum was chosen for the facade. The glass on the doors, on the ground floor and in the windows of the upper floor, were toned and lightly mirrored, to merge with the appearance of the closed sections of the facade.
The technical center radiates openness and innovation and gives the faculty for automobile technology a distinctive image.
