The Amerikahaus was built between 1955 and 1957 based on a competition design by architects Franz Simm and Karl Fischer, serving as a successor to the Lotzbeck Palace, originally constructed by Carl von Fischer. Located at Karolinenplatz in Munich, the Amerikahaus is now a listed building. It consists of a front four-story main building with a multi-story atrium and a rear cinema or theater hall.

The renovation aims to adapt the space to meet modern requirements, address existing structural deficiencies, and improve energy efficiency. The upper floors will be converted to accommodate various office uses to a contemporary standard. The hall on the ground floor will serve as a venue for smaller internal daytime events, symposiums, and larger evening events. Key to this transformation are high technical and functional standards, as well as compliance with all fire protection regulations, particularly in the spacious foyer.

Given the historic significance of the Amerikahaus, its prominent urban location, and the exemplary role of the Bavarian State Building Authority, heritage preservation plays a vital role in the project. Thus, the planning goal is not only to meet modern standards but also to preserve the building’s appearance and existing architectural details.
