The planning area is located in the hospital district and, due to its central location, presents an opportunity to make the research activities of the LMU Department of Geosciences and Environmental Sciences, as well as the important geoscientific research collections of the SNSB, more accessible to a wider public.
The square on Schillerstraße, together with the main entrance and the Forum of Sciences, marks the beginning of a sequence of interconnected public spaces that emerge from the staggered arrangement of the buildings. By complementing and extending the existing urban fabric, the design creates engaging public and internal courtyards and plazas in dialogue with the listed historic buildings. It also enables a seamless campus passage from Schillerstraße to Goethestraße.
The new development continues the characteristic urban structure of perimeter block development, integrating front and rear buildings. This approach naturally mediates between the typologically diverse existing structures, ensuring a harmonious transition within the urban context.
