The Neustädter Bahnhof Bicycle Parking Garage opens generously toward Schlesischer Platz, making optimal use of the site to create urban open space. The three-story building, due to its height, is visible and recognizable from the station grounds, platforms, and incoming trains.

The main entrance and the shop with a workshop are located along Dr. Friedrich-Wolf-Straße for optimal accessibility and visibility. A forecourt invites interaction and features a DIY zone equipped with accessible tools and an air pump for communal bicycle maintenance.

The promenade along Neustädter Bahnhof is reinforced by a western pedestrian entrance, ensuring short walking distances between the parking decks and the station.

Design Concept
The vibrant diversity of Dresden’s Neustadt is reflected in the design. Sustainable and recyclable materials are used to construct a future-proof building. The maximum building height is fully utilized, allowing for the elimination of a costly and less sustainable basement level.

Optimal usability of the bicycle parking garage is achieved through various practical solutions. Efficient double-deck bicycle racks are used, arranged fan-like in aisles with numbering and optional color-coded guidance systems to aid orientation. Pedestrian access to the station and public transportation is via a staircase, which also houses lockers and leads directly to the station entrance. This layout ensures a clear separation of bicycle and pedestrian traffic within the building.

The workshop features a large window opening toward Dr. Friedrich-Wolf-Straße, enhancing visibility and engagement.

At night, the bicycle parking garage lights up in vibrant colors, reflecting the nightlife and multifaceted character of Dresden’s Neustadt. A controllable and dimmable lighting system utilizes a grid of LED strips, transforming the building like a chameleon and drawing attention to Schlesischer Platz. The building thereby provides a secure, friendly, and lively atmosphere at night, enhancing its appeal to both visitors and users.
