The urban block “Annenhöfe” occupies the final vacant plot at Postplatz. Conceived as a perimeter block development with a generous inner courtyard, the building comprises a two-level underground parking garage and six above-ground storeys.
Housing the International University, the City of Dresden’s School Authority, and several international companies, the project completes the urban fabric of the quarter while creating a balanced counterpart to the newly developed residential areas in the surrounding neighborhood.
Following the specifications of the development plan, the closed building configuration forms a protected courtyard that lends the quarter a distinct character and provides additional spatial quality. By extending the arcade of the Zwingerforum into the newly created open space, the urban contour evolves into a small public square.
To articulate the overall urban figure, five distinct façade types were developed, reflecting the different uses within the building. Recurring materials and a continuous base level with round-arched elements unify the differentiated façades into a coherent architectural ensemble.
