Hotel am Terrassenufer, Dresden, 1st prize

The urban positioning and architectural design of the hotel prototype create a striking architectural statement. The objective during the renovation is to preserve the straightforward and clear façade structure from the building's original era, ensuring that the building’s presence in its prominent and sensitive urban setting remains unquestionable.
The design approach aims to recognize and reinterpret the existing qualities of the façade, which is characteristic of the building's construction period. Essentially, the result is an "update" that maintains a clear connection to the original concept. Identified shortcomings are addressed, and the potential of the design is fully realized.
Graphically interwoven surfaces with clear, abstract proportions reference the architecture and art of the construction period. The joint patterns typical of prototype buildings remain visible, maintaining a connection to the building's original identity.
