Kaulbachstr. Student Residence, Munich, 2nd prize

The basic prerequisite for the acceptance of a student hall of residence is a functioning community. The building can contribute to this by enabling two things: communication but also retreat. The brief and site provide the prerequisite for organising the residential units according to this concept.
All dining areas in the new building are orientated towards a spacious and sunny pergola. In addition to its function, the pergola thus becomes a communal area, a contact area for the residents and an outdoor seating area. The individual rooms with sleeping and working areas are orientated towards the opposite side and offer peace and privacy.
The new building is conceived as a garden house and extension of the existing building. The façade lives and changes with the use by the students.
